How do I get my motorbike licence?
Learners Licence
Complete your basic handling skills assessment (BHS) and receive your basic handling certificate. You are unable to sit your motorcycle learners' licence test without it.
Sit your Motorcycle Theory test at a licensing agent (AA or VTNZ) - There are 35 questions, 25 are general road code knowledge, 10 are motorcycle specific. You must get 32/35 answers correct to pass the test. There are free questions available on the driving tests website. https://www.drivingtests.co.nz/roadcode/motorbike/
Learners to Restricted
There is no waiting period with Revs, you must 16.5 years old to have the Restricted licence endorsed on your licence. To be eligible to sit your restricted with VTNZ testing officers, you must wait 6 months
Restricted to Full
With Revs you can complete your practical assessment ride at 9 months from the issue date of your Restricted. The Full licence can be endorsed on the 12 months anniversary of the issue of your Restricted.
Four test stages
The BHS assessment consists of four stages:
Basic turn and stop
Figure of eight and park
Linking figures of eight
Increased speed and emergency stop
Each stage has various tasks
In each stage you will:
Move off
Straight ride
Corner
Stop
Park
Each task has assessment items
This is what we will assess you on:
Looking in the correct direction
Signaling correctly
Making head checks before changing position
Lateral position of motorcycle
Control of motorcycle
Using appropriate speed
Parking observation
Parking movement.
Learners' motorcycle licence (6L)
which consists of four stages
basic turn and stop

linking figures of eight
increased speed and emergency stop
For new or returning riders 2 hour duration - $299
For experienced riders 1 hour duration - $199
Use of a Suzuki GN125 or Yamaha YS125 is included in the course cost
We have helmets and gloves available to use - free of charge
You will need to bring:
Photo ID (car licence is ideal, passport, firearms licence, Kiwi Access card)
Long trousers
Long sleeved jacket that is front fastening
Gloves (we can supply a pair)
Sturdy footwear
Wet weather gear if necessary
Helmet (we can supply one)
